Three Things You Should Never Do When Working With A Bail Bonds Agency

If you or a loved one have been arrested, a bail bonds agency can post bail to help you get out of jail. Many people who find themselves behind bars are first-timers, and as such, they may not fully understand how bail works and the dos and don'ts of working with a bail bonds agency. Here are three things that you should never do when you are working with a bail bonds agency.

Do Not Contact a Bail Bonds Company Until Bail is Set

One of the most common mistakes people make in regard to bail bond companies is calling a bail bond company before bail has even been set. A bail bonds company has no say in whether bail is set for an inmate and how much bail has been set at. As such, you should wait to call them until bail has been set for yourself or a loved one.

Never Provide the Bail Bonds Agency With False Information

When you are working with a bail bonds agency, you should never give out false information on the application. This includes giving false information such as false addresses, phone numbers, or employment information. In some states, you can be charged with a crime for providing false information on a bail bonds application. In other states, you may forfeit your bond if the bond agency finds out you provided them with false information. This means the bond company can re-arrest you and send you back to jail.

Never Miss a Court Hearing When You Are Out On Bail

Lastly, never miss a court hearing when you are out on bail. If you miss a court hearing while you are out on bail, a warrant will be issued for your arrest. The courts can revoke your bail if you miss a court hearing while out on bail. Once you are arrested or appear in court, the courts may decide to set your bail at a higher amount or deny you bail altogether, meaning you may have to sit in jail until your trial. A bail company can also revoke your bail if you miss court hearings, even if the courts decide not to.

Finding yourself behind bars or having a loved one arrested can be a stressful time for anyone. Fortunately, licensed bail bond agencies are there to help people get out of jail once a bail amount has been set. Reach out to a local bail bonds company to get the help you or a loved one need to get out of jail as quickly as possible.
